After 26 hours of natural (no drugs) labor, I gave birth to our daughter Oona on May 28. 2015 at 10:39pm. Her shoulder was stuck and she was basically pulled out of me with people aiding me in getting her out. After 4 hours in the NICU, she got the all clear and we were allowed to hold and cuddle her all we wanted to. I think I traumatized my birth photographer, it was the first birth he ever witnessed.
It's strange being a Mother of 2.... our 2 year old Viola, is obsessed with "baby" and all she wants to do is give her kisses. Oona is just shy of 7 days old and older sister has a cold, there is nothing more fun than trying to keep yourself snot free while having to nurse a newborn. I wish I had a Hazmat suit. As I've been working on this images and blog post, my older has been climbing all over me and acting out while my youngest snoozes angelically in the Moses basket.
With my oldest I had grand plans of taking her newborn photos.... I brought all of my lights and gear to the hospital. Her first non iPhone pictures of her were taken at a week old then 3 weeks old. I had never experienced that type of exhaustion before.... I still can't believe I went back to photographing clients when she was 10 days old.
I brought my camera for Oona and I was able to take pics of her at 16 hours old. It was just the two of us in my room and an overcast day. She was awake and cooperative, but of course wanted to nurse less than 5 minutes into her shoot. I decided we would take more images when we got home, so here are some of her first images.
We found out the next day that Oona has jaundice (hence the yellow complexion), her levels are not high enough for light therapy and it is slowly working it's way out of her system. Also with jaundice she sleeps a lot.... finding a window where she is awake is sometimes hard.
Today the lighting was great and she was up..... at just under 7 days old we had her second shoot.... she really is not a fan of hats or headbands, but what can you do? Older sister jumped in a couple of shots, snot and all.... but it's real life. No matter how perfect I wanted to make it appear, it just wasn't going to happen.
I couldn't have made it this first week without the support of my boyfriend and my Mother.... if I ever needed my Mommy more, it has been this past week! Catching up on precious sleep has been priceless!
As with any parent, you love all the images..... that is why there are so many ;) . There will be a lot of images up in the next year of my girls, thank you for letting me share with you all.
