It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, but today, something special nudged me to share a moment with you.
This morning, Facebook memories showed me a sweet photo of my oldest child gently interacting with my belly—inside was my youngest. I took that image myself at 17 weeks pregnant, and instantly, it brought me back.
When I was pregnant, I had all the intentions of doing professional maternity sessions each time. But the truth? I was tired—utterly exhausted. I worked hard through every pregnancy, and once each little one arrived, that exhaustion doubled. Though I didn’t always make it to a professional shoot, I still documented the journey. Every two weeks, I’d lie in bed, take a belly photo, and capture a memory before starting my day.
As a Chicago and Wheaton maternity photographer, I often hear that the "ideal" time to schedule a session is between 32 and 34 weeks—when the belly is perfectly round, and Mom still feels relatively comfortable. And yes, that can be a great time. But this photo I took at 17 weeks reminded me: there is no single right moment to celebrate your pregnancy.
Every stage of this journey matters.
Every version of you is beautiful.
Every connection—whether it’s your child talking to your belly, your partner holding your hand, or you quietly soaking it all in—is worth capturing.
So if you’ve been waiting for the “perfect time,” I invite you to release that pressure. Let’s create a session that reflects your experience.
Whether you're:
10 weeks or 38 weeks along
Craving an intimate moment in your home
Dreaming of a golden hour session in the forest preserve
Wanting to include your partner, your toddler, your dog, your whole family...
I’m here for it. And I would be honored to document it.
I currently shoot at my River North studio, have access to a beautiful shared space in Wheaton, and am happy to travel to your home or an outdoor location in Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, and across the Chicagoland area.
Thank you, always, for your continued trust and for letting me freeze time in these most fleeting, magical moments.
Take care,
Lori
Let’s create something honest, beautiful, and uniquely you.
