Let's be honest.
Most of us have hundreds—or thousands—of photographs of ourselves sitting on our phones.
And yet, when it's time to create a dating profile, we scroll through them thinking:
"I don't really have a good photo of myself."
So we choose the one from vacation.
The one someone took at dinner.
The selfie that has the best lighting.
The group photo where we cropped everyone else out.
Or the photograph where we actually look great—but it was taken three years ago.
Your dating profile photograph is too important to leave to chance.
Especially when you're hoping to meet someone who could become your person.
Before someone reads your profile, they see your photograph.
Before they know your sense of humor, your kindness, your ambition, your quirks or what makes you interesting, they see you.
That doesn't mean you need to look perfect.
Quite the opposite.
The goal of a great portrait isn't to turn you into someone you're not.
It's to show the person who is already there.
Your phone is excellent at documenting your life.
It captures the vacation.
The dinner.
The birthday.
The night out with friends.
But a portrait is different.
A portrait is intentional.
It considers expression, posture, light, connection, background, clothing and the energy you are giving the camera.
More importantly, a good portrait photographer knows how to get you out from behind the camera.
I have spent more than 30 years photographing people—from executives and physicians to musicians, models, entertainers, public figures and families.
One of the things I've learned is that most people don't actually know what they look like when they're relaxed, confident and genuinely connected to the camera.
That's my job.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions about professional portraits.
People often tell me:
"I'm terrible in photographs."
"I never know what to do with my face."
"I hate having my picture taken."
"I always look awkward."
I hear it all the time.
And that's exactly why you hire a photographer.
I guide you through expression, posture, movement and connection so you don't have to figure it out yourself.
Sometimes the best photograph happens between the poses.
A laugh.
A change in expression.
A moment of confidence.
A look that feels completely natural.
Those are the photographs that make someone want to know more about you.
If you're working with a matchmaker or looking for a serious relationship, your photographs should tell a story.
You don't necessarily need ten versions of the same smiling headshot.
Think about creating a collection that gives someone a glimpse into your world.
The polished you.
The relaxed you.
The adventurous you.
The playful you.
The sophisticated you.
The real you.
Your photographs should give someone enough information to think:
This may be the most important part.
Your goal isn't to create a photograph that gets everyone to swipe right.
It's to create photographs that attract the right person.
Someone who is drawn to your energy.
Someone who sees something familiar.
Someone who thinks your smile is beautiful.
Someone who notices your confidence.
Someone who wants to know your story.
The right photograph doesn't just say:
"This is what I look like."
It says:
"This is who I am."
We think of branding as something businesses do.
But every time you meet someone new, you're presenting a version of yourself to the world.
Your LinkedIn profile.
Your website.
Your social media.
Your dating profile.
Your photograph should be consistent with the person you actually are.
If you're successful, sophisticated, adventurous, creative, funny, warm, intellectual, stylish or quietly confident, your photographs should communicate that.
Not through props or forced poses.
Through the way you are photographed.
You don't need another selfie.
You don't need to find the photograph where you happen to look good.
And you certainly don't need to apologize for not being photogenic.
Let me photograph you.
I'll help you create a collection of portraits that shows the best, most authentic version of yourself—photographs you can use for matchmaking, dating profiles, social media, personal branding and wherever life takes you next.
Because the person you're hoping to meet deserves to see you.
Not the cropped group photo.
Not the blurry vacation snapshot.
Not the five-year-old Facebook profile picture.
You.
Let's create your portrait.
